    Description

What you see is exactly what you will receive - shows age appropriate wear...dirty and soiled...has a crack/ crease in lower right...RARE !!
Offered here is a vintage James E. Pepper whisky print, picturing heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson "collecting his share" of the fight purse after his historic bout with James Jefferies! Found this great vintage boxing print at a local estate that featured many vintage items; The print is good-sized. See ruler...next to image...This rare boxing print is a very early example of the promotional ties between "boxing and booze", as James E. Pepper Whisky was a sponsor of the 1910 Heavyweight World Championship fight between Johnson and Jefferies. This poster-print was most likely offered by the distillery company as a promotional item related to the fight, and it appears to be original!! The poster-print features a great street scene in Reno, Nevada where the fight took place on July 4, 1910. The "James E. Pepper Whisky" advertising banner hangs on display over the street scene. The caption reads "Hotel Golden, Headquarters of Promoters" in addition to "Johnson collecting his share of the 1,000 purse the evening of July 4, 1910" . The Hotel Golden is visible on left side of street; this is where
the majority of the street crowd seems to be congregating. Trolley cars and automobiles are also visible, with the street's business signage also visible as well. An absolutely wonderful vintage boxing item!!
It would make an excellent addition to any collection!
