    MARCH 17, 1897
    On March 17, 1897, Gentleman Jim Corbett fought a 14 round classic but lost his title to very little respected multi-weight class champion Blacksmith "Bob" Robert Fitzsimmons. The contest lasted 14 rounds witnessed by approx. 5000 thousand fans. Corbett out punched Fitzsimmons for most of the title contest but in the 14 suffered a series of tremendous blows preventing Corbett from continuing.
