On March 17, 1990 IBF Light Welterweight Champion Meldrick Taylor fought a unification bout with WBC Light Welterweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez.
The fight was held at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas.
Taylor was ahead on points going into the 12
th
round.
In the final seconds of round 12 Chavez put Taylor down and when he arose referee Richard Steele stopped the fight with ONLY 2 SECONDS left in the fight!!!
Taylor’s trainer Lou Duva was jumping up and down and screaming at the referee but to no avail.
Ring Magazine named this fight the 1990 FIGHT OF THE YEAR!!
